Getting the ferry to Russell

I visited Russell by ferry the afternoon I drove into Paihia, for our next day out at the Bay of Islands.

When driving to Paihia, there will be signs saying you can drive to Russell… Please note to get there, you have to board your car on a boat. So don’t do this if you are just wanting to visit Russell and your accommodation is in Paihia.

Instead drive to Paihia, and get the 30 minute ferry across to Russell. This will cost you $12 return. The boats run every 20 minutes until 5:30pm, then they run on the hour until 10pm.

It is the perfect spot for a chilled afternoon/dinner, away from the hustle and bustle of Paihia. It’s a small township, but very quaint and beautiful. Make sure you take a stroll around and take in the views!

Keely and I went to Sally’s restaurant for dinner, overlooking the water and got the dip/bread combo and fish and chips to share! Serenity never tasted so delicious.
